The new Nissan Z is the successor to the long-running 370Z sports car. The initial idea was for the vehicle to make its live premiere during this year’s New York Auto Show. Unfortunately, the event has been postponed, so we’ll have to settle for an online unveiling. The new model will be known as the “Z” across the world, except Japan, where it will be known as the “Fairlady Z.”
Exterior
The 2023 Nissan Z sports a tall hood and a squared-off rear, giving it a look reminiscent of the ’90s 300Z. Upfront is conventional LED headlights with two half-circles, a design cue derived from the 1970s JDM-only 240ZG. Buyers can choose between three monotone exterior colours or a two-tone exterior with six colour options.
The 2023 Nissan Z is virtually indistinguishable from the initial Z Proto concept study. The tall bonnet, with its elevated centre portion and large front air inlet, looks contemporary while paying tribute to the original 240Z model. . The base wheels are 18-inch aluminium alloys, while the Performance option adds 19-inch super-lightweight RAYS forged alloys covered in Bridgestone Potenza rubber.
The 2023 Nissan Z is intended to resemble a ‘vintage yet contemporary’ version of the Nissan 370Z. The tall hood and squared-off rear provide a look reminiscent of vintage Z-cars. The taillight cluster and elevated rear bumper are reminiscent of the ’90s 300Z while being fully contemporary. Everything, from the roofline to the doorknobs, exudes a ‘Vintage but Modern’ vibe.
Power, Performance & Handling
The new 400z is powered by the same 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine as the Nissan 370Z. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission as standard, or an optional nine-speed automatic transmission with launch control and aluminium paddle shifters. Nissan has not released performance figures, however, the 0-60 mph time is expected to be 15% faster than the 370Z’s. The vehicle is currently available in two variants: regular performance and high performance. Performance grades feature larger front and rear brakes, better handling, and larger wheels.
Interior
The new Nissan Z has two seats. The three analogue gauges on top of the instrument panel are vintage-inspired accents in the centre stack. According to Nissan, the cabin is “tailored to fit the driver and passenger like a glove.” The new Nissan 400Z features a 12.3-inch all-digital instrument cluster that displays essential information in three modes: Normal, Enhanced, and Sport. According to the firm, the redesigned steering wheel includes easy access controls as well as a “vintage appearance.”
The Nissan Z Proto comes standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot and an 8-speaker Bose audio system with active noise cancellation. Three interior options are given to the buyer red, blue and black.
Z Price
The seventh-generation Nissan Z will be on sale in the United States in the spring of 2022 as a 2023 model. There are currently no plans to bring it to the European market, presumably because of worries about ever-stricter emissions laws. The price should be approximately $40,000, equivalent to the Toyota GR Supra.
Conclusion
It may have taken a while for a decent 370Z replacement. The 2023 Nissan Z is well worth the wait. Its retro-inspired design on the interior and out, strong engine, and sophisticated tune make it completely deserving of its inherited history.
