What is the Difference Between Genuine & OEM Auto Parts?

May 30, 2022 by admin

Genuine and OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) auto parts both refer to components used in the production and maintenance of vehicles. However, there are some differences between the two types of parts:

Genuine Auto Parts

  • These are parts that are produced by the vehicle’s manufacturer.
  • Genuine auto parts usually come with the carmaker’s logo and branding.
  • They are specifically designed for a particular make and model of a vehicle.
  • Genuine parts are generally more expensive than their OEM counterparts.
  • They are sold through authorized dealerships and can be found in the manufacturer’s parts catalog.

OEM Auto Parts

  • OEM parts are produced by a company that supplies parts to the vehicle manufacturer, but they may not necessarily be the same company that makes the car.
  • OEM parts are designed to meet the exact specifications of the original parts and can be considered equivalent in quality and performance.
  • They usually do not carry the car manufacturer’s logo or branding.
  • OEM parts are typically less expensive compared to genuine parts.
  • They can be purchased through various channels, such as online stores, independent auto parts retailers, or even at some dealerships.

In summary, the main difference between genuine and OEM auto parts is the branding and the source of purchase. Genuine parts come directly from the vehicle manufacturer, whereas OEM parts are made by a separate company that supplies the original parts to the manufacturer. Both types of parts are designed to meet the same specifications, and the choice between them often comes down to personal preference, price, and availability.
